Toyota may move jobs out of UK if uncertainties over Brexit talks are not addressed

Toyota may shift jobs out of the UK unless uncertainties over the direction of the Brexit talks are addressed, the carmaker warned yesterday (September 12).

Toyota executive vice president Didier Leroy said if increasing concerns over the course and timing of the Brexit negotiations are not allayed, the Japanese firm may be forced to move some production out of Britain.

Leroy told Reuters: “A few months ago the UK government was saying, ‘We’re sure we’ll be able to negotiate (a deal) without any trade tax’. They are not saying that any more.”

He added: “It’s clear that if we have to wait two to three more years to have a clarity on this topic, we will have a big question-mark about our future investment in the country.”
